it has

our creek in June

When I was fourteen I found a poetry contest and entered three poems. I soon was informed that I had won. Later I discovered the entire thing to be a scam. I threw my congratulatory letter in the fireplace like a true writer. One of the poems was about if our creek ever ran dry. It was written during the beginning of the drought we are still suffering through. The creek has run dry and I felt like republishing my old, little ditty:

“When The Creek Runs Dry” by Everly Pleasant:

“When the creek runs dry my cheeks will run wet,

With the tears from my eyes full of fret,

For the poor little fish that are no longer wet,

When the creek runs dry though it hasn’t yet.”
