a timely hymn

Every year we sing the first verse of this hymn as a family. Holding hands in a huge circle, laughing because so many of the men-folk still don’t know any of the words, and then closing in prayer before getting in line for food. I always thought it was interesting since it isn’t really about giving thanks per-say, but-wow. It seems timely this year. Thanksgiving is a perfect time to remember our Christian love for one another (when the other loves might come and go) and to faithfully proclaim that we will all meet again sometime whether we are together today or not. Enjoy…

1.	Blest be the tie that binds
	our hearts in Christian love;
	the fellowship of kindred minds
	is like to that above.

2.	Before our Father's throne
	we pour our ardent prayers;
	our fears, our hopes, our aims are one,
	our comforts and our cares.

3.	We share each other's woes,
	our mutual burdens bear;
	and often for each other flows
	the sympathizing tear.

4.	When we asunder part,
	it gives us inward pain;
	but we shall still be joined in heart,
	and hope to meet again.

the tie that binds

Every year at Thanksgiving, my family joins hands and sings the first verse of this hymn. Or at least, those of us who actually know the words. (I point no fingers!)
It really is beautiful and I love that my family has made this a tradition…

“Blest be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship of kindred minds
Is like to that above.

Before our Father’s throne
We pour our ardent prayers;
Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one
Our comforts and our cares.

We share each other’s woes,
Our mutual burdens bear;
And often for each other flows
The sympathizing tear.

When we asunder part,
It gives us inward pain;
But we shall still be joined in heart,
And hope to meet again.

This glorious hope revives
Our courage by the way;
While each in expectation lives,
And longs to see the day.

From sorrow, toil and pain,
And sin, we shall be free,
And perfect love and friendship reign
Through all eternity.”

laugh-n-cry music

So the other day I was feeling a little down down-right depressed and so I decided to whip out an iTunes card that someone had given me for my graduation and spend all $25 in one splurge. I ended up buying several songs that lifted my spirits. Would you like me to share those?

Yes, this is a song to a tomato who is having a rough time. Listen long enough to get to the lyrics…they are precious. This is one of those songs that isn’t too perky to make you mad when you were feeling mellow, but still cheers you up.

This song is so sweet…it kind of makes you want to cry and smile at the same time. It was actually written by Charlie Chaplin but I love it put to Peyroux’s unique voice.

Definitely a perky one, so don’t listen to it if you’re feeling legitimately sad…it will only make you want to punch the lovely Ms. Gore. But if you are just needing a small pick-me-up, this song is perfectly adorable. And the video is quite funny.

This song is like a sunrise through lace curtains. I love it…so happy and chill. Not to mention, her voice is like chimes…!
Everly Pleasant
