a question of swimsuits

My family goes to the beach for a week every year, and on top of that, we try to make several visits to a swimming pool during the Summer. Where we live, there are a couple of months during which you can hardly survive being outside of an air-conditioned building without encountering a swimming pool within the hour. Seriously. (kinda.)

So it is reasonable that I own a swimsuit. Preferably more than one. I am still able to use the one I bought last year from Target, but I’d really like to have one more to switch to ever-so-often. The trouble is, I am not about to go buy a bikini…and apparently that’s all stores carry these days. At least in college towns (and I happen to live in one.)

During the Summer, I am sure more swimsuits will cycle through Target and Walmart, but I’d rather have one ahead of time that:
1. I think is cute
2. I think is modest enough
3. I know fits me

So I thought it might be worth the cost of ordering one online, especially since it is early in the season and I still have time to return it if it doesn’t fit well etc. I am not looking for one of these (no offense to the website, I admire their motives,) but some kind of happy medium between that and “Oh my, she forgot to get dressed this morning!”

I liked a lot of what I saw at Lands’ End,  but they appear to have hardly anything in my size.

Which brings me to the question:
Where do you buy swimsuits?
Have you heard of any online stores that sell appropriate swimwear in all sizes?

Would you mind leaving a comment? :)

Thank you, thank you everyone! Your comments were all very much appreciated.

    The update is:
I have still yet to purchase a swimsuit. After much unsuccessful online shopping (Target, Walmart, Old Navy, Nordstrom, Eddie Bauer, Land’s End, Dillards, Macy’s, JcPenny and google searches for “modest swimwear”) I finally saw something I was interested in at…(you guessed it) limericki.com!

I loved their swimsuits at first glance, but as I would peruse their selection, I never quite landed on one that I really wanted (perhaps it was all of the bold stripes?) However, I have since come to like this look: http://www.limericki.com/WOMEN/TANKINI-TOPS/CHLOE-TANKINI

I would buy the tankini top with the yellow shorts she’s wearing in the picture. Luckily, both pieces are on sale, but that would bring my total to 37.00 and so I have to decide if I want to risk the online purchase. I’m going to measure myself before going through with it!

To answer your questions, I am looking for “extra small” size swimsuits that don’t…er, require a lot of curves. I’m about average height and very thin and shapeless.

Land’s End looked awesome (I’m happy to hear so many success stories from there!) but they had only two in xs, neither of which I cared for.

Anyway, I think I’m going to go with Lime Ricki! THANKS FOR THE LINKS!

    Love, Everly

I wear a Land’s End suit, but want a new one this year.

Try Lime Ricki- they have some cute stuff!

I got mine at Land’s End. I waited for a sale and bought the Carmela Slender Suit…. I definitely love it. I wear it with shorts, but have yet to get the shorts I want, though I’ve seen them for sale. Eddie Bauer sells an 8 inch, women’s swim short. Just have to wait till I can afford them. :)

What kind of sizing problems are you having? Do you need smaller sizes than normal?

I haven’t worn a swimsuit in two years, at least. I avoid wearing swimsuits at all costs. (I don’t even wear shorts, actually. Yes. I dislike my body. But not obsessively.)
But, yeah. Swimsuit shopping is horrible. My best friend sometimes wears a guy’s bathing suit on the bottom (long shorts) and then like… a shirt that’s made to be worn in the water. I don’t know what they’re called. But it seems to work pretty well for her. :)

P.S. Good luck!!! And I think you’re going to have to let us in on what you decide. ;) Oh and that Lands End suit is *really* cute. :)

Everly, I completely understand your quest. :)

I ordered a tankini from this website last summer. It was *really* cute, although, I did wind up returning it because it just wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. They have some cute stuff though and I didn’t return it because of anything besides the fact that it just didn’t fit me like I wanted.

I’m not much of a beach/swimming person, but Lands End has been my store of choice for years (even back when they were just a catalog and not an online shopping site). I like their swimsuits because they’re modest without being … well, like those amusing suits you linked to.

They also make different suits for different body types, and let you know which is for which. I really appreciate that–saves me a lot of time having to try things on, send them back, etc.

I like their “kindest cut” tanks because the leg holes don’t reach halfway to my waist!

Good luck finding something! I love the “tankini” style you posted!
